The Bombay Engg Works

Sewree is one of those places that still feels like old industrial Mumbai. We are over at Navyug Industrial Estate on T J Road. It's a crowded area with lots of trucks coming and going all day long. Being in Sewree West, we’re close to the docks and other big engineering spots. Our shop is just one of many in this estate, but we’ve carved out our own space here. We do general engineering work. It involves a lot of lathe work, welding, and fixing things that people bring in. It’s noisy and the air always smells a bit like oil and metal shavings. That's just how engineering shops are. We don't have a big fancy reception or anything like that. You just walk in and talk to whoever is at the bench. Most of our tools have been with us for a long time, well-maintained and reliable. The guys working here know their trade. They don't need a lot of instructions once they see a drawing or a broken part. We spend most of the day just getting through the pile of jobs. Sometimes it’s a rush, other times we can take it slow. T J Road can get really jammed up in the evenings, so we try to get our shipping done early. It’s a tough environment but it’s honest work. We’ve been part of this estate for years and know all the neighbors.
