We work for Tata Tele Services Maharashtra Ltd, and you can find us at 8-Kesav Borkar Chawl, near the Godup Dev Temple on Reay Road in Mumbai. This is a very traditional part of the city, and working out of a chawl gives things a very different feel than a big glass tower. We are right in the thick of things. The area is always noisy with the sounds of the city and the temple nearby. We handle telecommunications services, so we are often dealing with phone lines, internet connections, and billing issues for our customers. Our office is a bit small and can get quite cramped when everyone is there at the same time. We have stacks of files and various pieces of equipment lying around. It’s a very hands-on job. We often have to go out and check on things in the neighborhood. We know the local people and they know us. There’s a certain way of doing things here that’s been the same for years. We don't use a lot of fancy technology for ourselves; we just use what works to get the job done. It’s an honest way to make a living in a busy part of Mumbai. We take our breaks when we can, usually grabbing a tea from the stall just down the road. It’s just how life is for us here on Reay Road.
