Mavji & Brothers Talpatriwala

Mavji & Brothers Talpatriwala is located at 146/148 Sant Tukaram Road in Mulund West. We are right in the Dana Bunder area, which is always buzzing with commercial activity. Our main thing is talpatri, or tarpaulins, so you will see huge rolls of plastic and heavy-duty canvas everywhere you look in the shop. It’s a family-run kind of place, and we’ve been at this for a long time. The smell of the material is very strong, something you just get used to after a few days of working here. During the months before the monsoon, we get incredibly busy and there’s hardly any room to move between the stacks of covers. We spend a lot of time measuring out lengths and cutting them to size on the floor. It’s physical work, and our hands are usually calloused from handling the thick fabrics and ropes. The shop front is simple, with samples hanging out so people know what we have. We don't use any high-tech systems; we just use a measuring tape and a good pair of shears. The street outside is full of lorries, and we often have to load big bundles onto them. It is a bit messy and loud, but that’s just how Dana Bunder is. We just focus on providing the covers that keep things dry. It’s a straightforward business with deep roots in the local Mulund community.
