Susheel Engineering Corporation is situated at D-7 in the Ghatkopar Industrial Estate. This isn't a place for quiet conversation. There is always the sound of metal hitting metal or the hum of a machine running somewhere nearby. The air in the estate is thick with the smell of oil and burnt steel. Our unit is just one of many, but we’ve been in this D-7 spot for quite a few years. We have heavy machinery bolted to the floor and work benches that have seen a lot of use. Everything is built for function here, not for looks. There are iron filings in the corners and the ceiling is high to keep the heat from the welding away from us. We wear heavy boots and spend the day moving parts around. Ghatkopar gets very hot in the summer, and the industrial estate feels even hotter with all the engines running. We take our breaks sitting on crates near the entrance where there’s a bit of a breeze. It’s an honest way to spend the day, working with our hands and making sure the engineering parts are cut to the right size. We don't have a sales team or a shiny brochure. If someone needs something made or fixed, they just find their way to D-7. It’s a gritty, loud, and busy place, just like the rest of the industrial estate.
