Dadar East is the heart of the city in so many ways. Our little spot at 1 Puna Gam Main Road is almost always hectic. We are surrounded by the constant sound of heavy buses and yellow taxis. People are always in a big hurry to get somewhere important. We spend our entire day trying to help them get there without running into too much trouble. Booking tickets, checking various travel schedules, and dealing with last-minute cancellations is our daily bread and butter. It involves a lot of phone calls back and forth. Sometimes the phone lines stay busy and people get a bit frustrated with us, but we do what we can to help. The office sits right on the main road, so there is usually a lot of dust and traffic noise coming through the door. We keep a simple jug of water on the table for anyone who walks in. It is a small place and there is nothing fancy about it. We have some old posters of holiday spots on the walls, but we rarely get to go on those trips ourselves. We are usually stuck here making sure everyone else’s journey goes smoothly. Puna Gam is a very busy junction, so there is never a dull moment during our shift. We know all the local bus drivers and the tea seller across the street. It’s just work.
