Subhash Engineering Works

Our workshop, Subhash Engineering Works, is located in Gala No 46 and 48 of the Shreepal Industrial estate on Arcot Srinivasachar Street in Malad West. It’s an industrial area, so it’s not the cleanest or quietest place to be. There is always the smell of machine oil and the sound of metal hitting metal. We have various machines taking up most of the floor space in both galas. It’s a place where we get our hands dirty every single day. The floor is stained with grease, and there are tools scattered across the workbenches. We don't have a fancy office or a place for people to sit and wait. It’s a working shop. We spend long hours on the lathe or welding bits and pieces together. Most of the time, we are wearing old clothes that we don't mind getting ruined. Arcot Srinivasachar Street is usually full of trucks loading and unloading stuff for the other units in Shreepal Indus, so getting in and out can be a bit of a struggle sometimes. We keep a small fan near the workbench to try and stay cool, but it mostly just blows the warm air around. We’ve been doing this kind of work for years, and we know our machines inside and out. It’s hard work, but there is a certain rhythm to it that we’ve gotten used to over the years. We just focus on the job at hand and try to get everything finished on time. When the day is over, we lock up.
