Sinful Treats

Down here in Vile Parle West at Laxmi Darshan, things stay pretty hectic most days. We are tucked into Shop 7 on Bajaj Road, right near the Zaveri Bazar area. It is a small place but we manage to fit everything in. Most of the day is spent checking the ovens and making sure the displays look decent. We get a lot of people walking by from the market who just want something sweet after a long day of shopping or work. The air inside usually smells like vanilla or chocolate, which is nice until you’ve been standing in it for eight hours. We handle a lot of boxes and ribbons. It isn’t always quiet, especially with the traffic on Bajaj Road right outside our door. We started this because we liked making stuff, and now it’s just our daily routine. The glass counters need a lot of wiping because kids always leave fingerprints when they are looking at the cakes. We aren't a big corporate chain or anything, just a local spot where we try to keep the fridge running cold. Some days the delivery guys are late and it gets a bit stressful in the back room. But mostly, we just stay behind the counter and help whoever walks in. It’s a lot of standing and moving trays around. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a bit over time, but the shop stays pretty much the same as always.
