My name is on the door and Silk Route Travel is what I call this business. I don't really have a big office building to show you. Like the address says, it is basically in my resume, which means I work from where I am. Mostly that’s a small desk in a corner with a lot of notes stuck to the wall. I started this because I liked the idea of helping people see the world. It’s just me here. I spend my mornings drinking tea and looking at flight maps. The phone doesn't stop much. People want to know about prices or if a certain hotel is okay. I tell them what I know. It isn't a fancy corporate setup with a lobby and a coffee machine. It’s just a person and a computer. I do all the bookings myself. Sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming when three people call at once. But I like the rhythm of it. The paperwork for visas can be a real headache. I sit here and double-check every name and number. I’ve been doing this for a long time now. It’s a simple life. I don't need a big staff to get things done. I just focus on the travel details and making sure the tickets are right. It’s a quiet way to run a business but it works for me.
