Shri Kamdhenu General Store

This shop is on Daftary Road in Malad East. It’s a busy spot and we've been here for quite some time. We open early in the morning before most people are even awake to get things ready for the day. The shelves are packed with all sorts of things people need for their homes. We try to keep track of everything, but sometimes the stacks get a bit high. It’s a small space, so you have to move carefully when you're looking for something. Most of our neighbors stop in at some point during the day. We know a lot of them by name now. It’s not a big supermarket. It’s just a regular store where you can grab what you forgot to buy earlier. The floor is old tile and it’s seen a lot of feet walk over it. We don’t have fancy lighting or modern displays. We just put the stock where it fits on the shelves. Sometimes it’s a bit dusty, especially when the wind blows in from the street. Daftary Road is always noisy with cars and people talking. We sit behind the counter and wait for the next person to walk in. We’ve been here through many monsoons and the summer heat. It gets hot in here when the sun hits the front, so we keep the fan going. It’s a simple life running a shop like this. We just keep the doors open and make sure we have the basics in stock for the local families.
