Store Keeper

Being over here at Jai Bharat Society in Kurla West keeps me pretty busy. Store Keeper is tucked away in Sunder Baug, and if you know Mumbai, you know how crowded it gets around Kamani. I’m usually here before the sun gets too high, trying to sort out whatever came in late the night before. The space isn't huge, so I have to be smart about where I put things. Sometimes I trip over a stray box because I was in a hurry. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but there’s never really a quiet moment to get it done. People from the society drop by, sometimes just to say hello or ask if a specific item arrived yet. The humidity here makes the paper labels peel off sometimes, which is a bit of a pain. I spend a lot of my time just counting things and making sure the numbers in my head match what’s actually on the shelf. It’s a lot of back and forth. Lunch is usually eaten quickly at the small desk in the back while listening to the noise from the street. I don't have a big team or anything, it's just the daily grind of keeping things moving. When the monsoon hits, I’m always worrying about leaks, but so far we’ve stayed dry. It’s honest work, and it fills the hours from morning until late evening when I finally pull down the shutter and head home to rest.
