The workshop here at Sakinaka has been running for a good while now. It gets pretty loud on Kherani Road with all the traffic and the machines going, but that is just how things are in this part of town. We are over at number 25 in Yadav Nagar. Most days start early because there is always some metal that needs cutting or a part that needs fixing before the sun gets too high. It isn't a fancy place with big carpets or anything like that. Just some heavy benches, a lot of tools, and floors that always seem to have a bit of oil on them no matter how much we sweep. We have a small crew and most of us have been working together long enough that we don't need to say much to get the job done. Sometimes the power acts up or a delivery is late, and then we just sit outside for a bit and have some tea while things get sorted. It is basic work but it keeps the neighborhood going. People drop by with all sorts of broken things, hoping we can weld something or figure out why a machine stopped turning. We usually try our hand at it if we have the time. The rain gets quite heavy around here during the monsoon, and the road gets messy, but we keep the shutters up as long as we can. It’s just us doing what we know how to do.
