Our place is Shop No 6 in Yusuf Choksi Chawl, located in Malad East. It’s a bit of a mixed business here because we do both travel bookings and help people find places to stay as an estate agent. It might seem like an odd mix, but it keeps us very busy. One minute we are looking at train schedules or bus tickets for someone visiting their village, and the next we are showing a room to a new tenant. Being in a chawl means we are right in the middle of everything. There is always noise and people passing by the door. We have lived and worked in Malad for a long time, so we know the lanes and the buildings around here pretty well. We keep a lot of registers for the property side of things and a computer for the travel bookings. It’s nothing fancy, just a desk and a few chairs for people to sit while we talk about prices or travel dates. Sometimes the paperwork gets a bit much, especially with the government rules changing, but we just take it one day at a time. We don't use big advertisements. Most people just walk in because they saw our sign or a friend told them we could help. It is a simple life running a small agency in this part of town, dealing with keys and tickets all day long.
