Sheetal Dairy Sweets & Farshon Mart

Morning starts with the milk cans arriving at Marol Maroshi Road 41. It is usually still dark outside when we begin moving the heavy containers inside. This shop is a mix of things, with dairy on one side and the fried snacks on the other. The smell of the hot oil starts around eight, and it stays in our clothes all day long. We have these big glass jars filled with different kinds of farshan, and we have to keep tightening the lids so everything stays crunchy. It gets very busy during the festivals, and we end up staying here until midnight sometimes just to finish the orders. The counter is old wood and it has some scratches on it from years of people sliding their change across. We do not have a computer system, we just write everything down in a big ledger with a blue pen. It is a bit cramped inside when more than four people are waiting at the same time. Our neighbors often come in just to say hello or ask about the weather while they wait for their yogurt. We have been in this part of Marol for years, and the street has changed a lot, but our little corner stays pretty much the same. We just keep doing the same things every day, making sure the milk is cold and the snacks are crisp. It is a simple business that keeps us on our feet from the first delivery to the last customer.
