It is mostly about the site work here for Shapoorji Pallonji’s construction materials group. We do not have a fancy office setup with big signs or glass walls, it is more about the actual supplies and the logistics of moving stuff from one place to another. People come by asking about cement or steel or whatever the current project needs, and we just try to keep the inventory straight in our logs. Sometimes the yard gets pretty cluttered, especially when three different trucks arrive at the same time and the paperwork starts piling up on the desk in the small cabin. It is dusty work most days. You find yourself cleaning your glasses every twenty minutes or so. The tea guy comes around at eleven and four, which is usually the highlight of the afternoon for the guys on the floor. We have been in this industry for a long time, so we know how the local sites operate and what the weather does to the delivery schedule. When it rains, everything slows down and we spend more time under the tin roof checking lists than actually moving material around. It is not the most glamorous job in the world, but it is steady and keeps us busy. We just keep our heads down and handle the orders as they come in. Sometimes the phone does not stop ringing and other times it is so quiet you can hear the birds outside. We stay focused on the day-to-day tasks.
