Shanti Dal Mill

Shanti Dal Mill is in Goregaon West. Our address is Gram Panchayat Road 41276. It is an old part of the area and you can feel it when you walk down the street. The mill itself has a very specific smell, mostly grains and dust. We’ve been operating here for a long time. It’s a family-run kind of thing. We have big machines that make a lot of noise when they are running. The floor is usually covered in a thin layer of dust from the dal. We don't wear uniforms, just old clothes that we don't mind getting dirty. Gram Panchayat Road is narrow, so big trucks have a hard time getting in, but we manage. We spend our days hauling bags and checking the quality of the grains. It is hard physical work. Sometimes we get tired, but that is how it goes. We don't have a fancy office. There is just a small corner with a table and a couple of plastic chairs. Most of our customers are locals who have been buying from us for years. We don't do any advertising. People just know where we are. We have an old wooden stool near the entrance where people sit to rest and talk. The scale we use is an old manual one that we trust more than the digital ones. It’s a slow pace of life inside the mill. We like keeping things the way they’ve always been for years.
