Our shop is tucked away in Chira Bazar, right at the ground floor of Tabela Chawl. If you know Mumbai, you know Marine Lines is always moving. Shop No. 14 is where we handle everything. It’s a tight space at 66 Chandanwadi, but it works for what we do. We’ve been around the neighborhood for a while. Usually, you’ll find us dealing with infra parts or talking to contractors. The street outside is noisy, but that’s just Chira Bazar for you. We don’t have a big corporate office with glass walls. It’s more of a practical place where we keep our tools and records. We started out when there were fewer shops in the chawl. Sometimes the deliveries are late because of the traffic on the main road, but we manage. Everyone around here knows us. The chai wallah nearby knows our order by heart. We aren't trying to be the biggest company in the city. We just want to do the work right and go home. Most days involve a lot of phone calls and checking on supplies. It’s dusty work sometimes. We get a lot of walk-ins from people in the trade. Dealing with infrastructure in a place like Mumbai means you have to be ready for anything. It’s constant. We have a lot of old files from when we first opened stacked in the corner. We just stick to our little spot in the chawl and keep at it every single day.
