About Saurashtra Grain Stores – Food & Beverages in Mumbai
We've been here at Masjid Bunder 196 for a long time now. It’s a busy spot, always crowded with people and trucks moving around. Mostly we just deal with different types of grains and pulses. Every morning starts early, usually around seven, when the first loads come in. You can see the dust dancing in the light coming through the front door. We spend most of our day weighing out bags and keeping track of what’s in the back. It isn't a fancy place. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, and the floor is usually covered in a bit of grit from the sacks. We just do what we do. People come in, ask for what they need, and we help them out. Sometimes it gets really loud with the traffic outside, but you get used to it after a while. We have these old wooden desks where we keep the books. My father used to sit in the same corner. It feels like the air here is heavy with the smell of dry lentils and rice. It's just a regular shop. We don’t have any big slogans or anything like that. Just lots of heavy lifting and making sure the inventory is right. If you walk past 196, you’ll see the stacks of bags piled up high. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know. The fans overhead just push the warm air around, but we keep moving.
