Sai Dairy

Waking up at four in the morning is part of the life here at Sai Dairy. We are located in Malad West over at Bullet Krishnappa Layout 1. The milk arrives early and we have to get everything ready before the sun is even up. People start coming in for their morning tea milk around six. It's a small place but it stays busy. We have the big fridges humming all day and night. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to worry about the curd. Usually it is fine though. I’ve lived in Malad for a long time and seen shops come and go. We stay right here. It’s a lot of cleaning too. You have to wash the floors constantly so it doesn’t smell. My nephew helps out sometimes when he isn't at school. We sell eggs and bread too because people ask for them. The street gets narrow when the delivery trucks come by. It's a bit of a squeeze. We know most of the people who live in the layout. They stop to chat for a minute while they wait for their change. It’s a quiet life in a way, just the same routine every day. We don't have a big staff, just us family members mostly. It gets crowded behind the counter. I guess that's just part of the job. Most days we are done by the afternoon but someone is always here.
