Safari Leather

Safari Leather is a small shop, number three to be exact, located at 92-b on the Sion Bandra Link Road. We are right in the middle of Dharavi, so it is always crowded and there is always something going on outside the door. If you have ever been to this part of Mumbai, you know the smell of leather is everywhere. We spend most of our days surrounded by hides and tools. The space is a bit cramped because we have to store the materials and also have room to actually work on the bags and belts. It is not the kind of place where you find air conditioning or fancy chairs. We have some old stools and a lot of workbenches that have seen better days. The traffic on the Link Road is constant, so there is always a background hum of horns and engines. We don't spend money on fancy signs or marketing stuff. People usually just stop by because they are passing through Dharavi or they heard about us from a neighbor. It is a tough way to make a living sometimes, especially when the heat gets bad in the summer, but we like the work. We just focus on getting the stitching right and making sure the leather is handled properly before it goes out. There is always a lot to do, and we just take it one day at a time without much fuss.
