S. K. Gears

S. K. Gears is tucked away in Building No-E-16 of the Samrat Silk Mills Compound. This is on L.B.S. Marg in Vikhroli West. The compound is quite old and used to be a bustling mill, so it has a very specific feel to it. The walls are thick and the air always smells a bit like old grease and machinery. We have been operating out of this unit for a long time. It isn't the easiest place to find if you are visiting for the first time, but we like the quietness of being tucked away. Inside, our gear-cutting machines take up most of the room. They make a rhythmic clicking sound that we have all learned to ignore. We have a small area where we keep the finished products, all wrapped up in oily paper to keep them from rusting. There is no air conditioning, just some old ceiling fans that wobble a bit when they are on high. We don't have a fancy website or a glossy catalog to show people. Usually, someone just brings us an old, broken gear and asks if we can make a new one just like it. We spend our days measuring and cutting, making sure every tooth is exactly where it belongs. It is slow, careful work that requires a lot of patience. We are just a group of workers who focus on doing a solid day of manual labor.
