S & S Engineering Works

S & S Engineering Works is located over in Govandi East, specifically at Sola Road Juna Wadaj 2. It’s a bit of a journey for some of us to get here, but we’ve been at this spot for a long time. The workshop isn't anything special to look at. It’s basically a big garage filled with tools and metal scraps. We do a lot of fixing and fabricating, usually for people from the local area. The walls are covered in old calendars and notes we’ve scribbled to ourselves over the months. We don't really do much in the way of organization; if a tool is out, it’s probably because someone is using it. The heat can get pretty intense in Govandi, especially when we’re welding something big. We usually have the radio playing in the background, though you can barely hear it over the noise of the machines. The street outside, Sola Road, is always busy with trucks and rickshaws, so there’s never a quiet moment. We’re just a small crew trying to get the work done right so we don't have to redo it later. It’s practical work for practical people. We don't put on any airs about what we do. If you need something fixed, we just take a look and see what can be done. It's a simple arrangement and it has kept us going through some pretty busy years.
