Roop Nath Dairy

Every morning starts very early here at Roop Nath Dairy in Malad West. We are located in Shop No 1 of the Queen Court Building, right near Sundar Sankul. The first thing we do is get the milk crates off the truck before the sun is even up properly. It’s a small shop, but we stay busy because everyone in the neighborhood needs their curd and milk for breakfast. Sometimes the fridge acts up, and we have to fiddle with it to keep everything cold. It’s not a big supermarket, just a local dairy where people stop by on their way home. My brother and I take turns behind the counter throughout the day. We know most of the faces that come through the door, even if we don't always know their names or where they live. We sell the usual things like paneer and butter too. Sometimes the floor gets a bit wet from the ice melting in the crates, so we’re always mopping. It gets crowded in the evenings when people are heading back from work. The Queen Court Building is a good spot, though parking is always a mess around here. We just try to keep the stock fresh and the shop clean enough for the customers. It's a lot of standing around and waiting for the next person to walk in, but we like talking to the neighbors. It's been our way of life for a long time now.
