Rock Salt

We are located down in Girgaon Chowpatty, in the Jetha Govind Building. The entrance is on Dr A R Rangnekar Road, right in Metro Motors Lane. It is a bit tucked away in the lane but people usually find us if they are looking. We are opposite Anokhi if you know that part of the neighborhood. Rock Salt started because we wanted to do something near the water. Mumbai is always moving fast, but this specific lane feels a bit different and slower. We have tables and we serve food to whoever comes in. It is nothing like those huge places you see in the malls. It gets a bit cramped when it is busy, but people do not seem to mind much. We use a lot of salt in the kitchen for various things, hence the name we picked. The air here usually smells like the sea. Some days the humidity is really tough to deal with, but we keep the fans going. We have had some of the same staff since we first opened. They know the regulars by name now. We do not have a big menu that changes every week. We stick to what we know how to make well. It is just simple stuff for local people. Sometimes the plumbing acts up because it is an old building, but we just fix it and keep moving. It is just a local spot for a quick meal. You can see the people walking towards the beach from our door.
