Ramlakhan Dairy

Ramlakhan Dairy is located at shop number four hundred in the MHB colony in Malad West. We are right by one of the gates, so there is always someone walking past the window. The shop is mostly just a big fridge and some counters where we keep the milk and the curd. We open up very early because that is when everyone wants their milk for tea. The metal shutters make a lot of noise when we pull them up in the dark. We have those plastic crates stacked up out front every morning. It gets really crowded in the evenings when the kids are playing nearby and people are coming back from the train station. We sell a lot of dahi in the little plastic tubs and sometimes we have some sweets if we have made them that day. The light inside is a bit yellow and the floor is white tile that shows every bit of dirt, so we are always sweeping it. There is a small radio we keep on the shelf that mostly plays old songs. We know most of the people who live in the colony by their first names or just by what they usually buy. Sometimes people just stop to chat for a minute while they wait for their change. It is not a big place and there is not much room to move around, but it works for what we need. We just keep the fridge running and make sure the milk stays cold.
