Rama Bai Mahatre Flower Shop

Our shop is on the ground floor of the Prabhat Kunj Building in Kurla West. We are right near the Sheetal Cinema bus stop and the Sanand Chokdi area. It is a very loud and crowded part of town. You can always hear the buses pulling up and the conductors shouting out the stops. We get a lot of commuters who just need something quickly before they jump on a bus. The shop itself is quite simple. We don't have much room, so every inch is used for buckets or stringing flowers. Because we are near the bus stop, it gets very dusty, so we are constantly wiping things down. We start our day when the first buses start running. It’s a lot of manual work, especially when the big bags of flowers arrive from the market. We have to sort through everything and pick out the good ones. We’ve been here at number 221/21 for quite some time. The building is old and has its quirks, but it works for us. We don't use any big marketing tricks. We just put our stools out and get to work. Sometimes the traffic at the Chokdi gets so backed up that people just stand and stare at our shop while they wait. We’ve seen many people come and go from this neighborhood. It’s a busy life, but we like being right where the action is.
