Sanjit Florist

Sanjit Florist is a small spot in Santacruz West. We are right next to the HSBC bank, so we get a lot of people walking by on their way to do their banking. The smell of flowers is usually pretty strong around our shop, which is a nice change from the city smells. We spend our mornings at the flower market, picking out what looks fresh that day. Roses, lilies, marigolds—it depends on the season and what is available. We don't have a big refrigerated display like the fancy shops in the malls. We just keep our flowers in buckets of water and try to keep them in the shade as much as we can. It is wet work, and my hands are usually stained from the stems and the dirt. People stop by for many reasons. Sometimes it is a happy occasion like a birthday or a wedding, and other times it is for something sad. We just put the bouquets together, tie them with some ribbon, and hand them over. We don't do anything too complicated or fancy. If someone wants a simple bunch of flowers, that is what they get. The shop is small, so we mostly stand outside on the pavement while we work. It is a simple way to make a living. We have the same regulars who come every week for their house flowers. Nice to see the same faces. We aren't a big chain, just a local florist trying to keep the flowers fresh.
