We’re out here in Alibag, which is a bit of a getaway from the main chaos of Mumbai. People usually come here to relax, but for us, it’s where we work every day. The resort is a big place, but our daily life is mostly behind the scenes. We spend our time checking on things, making sure the rooms are okay and the gardens look decent. It’s a lot of walking around. The air is definitely different here compared to the city, a bit saltier because of the sea. Sometimes it’s really quiet, especially on weekdays when the crowds are thin. We have a lot of local staff who come in from the nearby villages. It’s not all luxury for us; there’s a lot of cleaning and fixing that goes on constantly. We eat our meals in the staff area, usually talking about what needs to be repaired next or the weekend weather. During the monsoon, everything gets incredibly green, but it’s a lot of work to keep the water out of the common areas. We don’t really use fancy language here. If a pipe leaks, we fix it. If a guest needs something, we find it. It’s a busy life, but it’s better than being stuck in a tiny office in a skyscraper. Alibag has its own pace, and we’ve all grown to like it over time. Even when it’s busy, you can still hear the birds and the wind.
