R P Gupta General Store

R P Gupta General Store is right in the middle of Chembur at Indra Nagar, near the Vashi Naka area. It is a typical neighborhood shop where we sell almost everything a household might need during the week. We have bags of rice and dal stacked up near the entrance and rows of soap and shampoo on the wooden shelves. The space is a bit tight, especially when the morning milk delivery comes in and we have to move things around. M G Ma is usually quite busy with people walking to work, so we open up pretty early to catch the morning crowd. It can get a bit chaotic in the evenings when everyone is coming home and wants to pick up oil or sugar for dinner. We do not have a fancy computerized system, mostly just writing things down and knowing our prices by heart. Sometimes the kids from the nearby houses come in for a single piece of chocolate or some biscuits. It is a lot of standing around and lifting heavy bags, but that is just the way a general store works. We have been in this part of Chembur for years, so we know most of the families by their first names. It is a humble place that serves the local people every day, through the heat and the rain, without any big fuss or complicated rules.
