R. Kantilal & Co.

Our office, R. Kantilal & Co., is on the 6th floor of Jain Towers on Mathews Road. It’s right in the middle of the Opera House chaos. We’ve been here long enough that the security guards know us by name. The office isn't very large, but we’ve got enough room for the staff and the equipment we need. We handle exports and trade, which involves a lot of back-and-forth on the phone. You can always hear someone talking to a supplier or a client. We try to keep things simple. There’s no corporate hierarchy here; we all just pitch in when there’s a lot of work to be done before the day ends. The tea man comes around in the afternoon, and that’s usually when we take a ten-minute break to talk about anything but work. Mathews Road can be a nightmare for parking, so most of us take the train and walk. It keeps us active, I guess. We deal with various goods and the paperwork that goes with them. It’s not always exciting, but it’s what we know. We aren't interested in being flashy. We just want to keep the business running smoothly and make sure our families are taken care of. It’s a decent living and we enjoy the people we work with every day. The office feels like home after all these years of coming in every morning.
