We’ve been here at 69 Jogeshwari East for a while now. Most days start pretty early because the flower trucks arrive before the sun is even up properly. It gets quite humid in this part of Mumbai, so keeping the roses and lilies from wilting is a constant job for us. Piyu Flowrist isn't a big fancy place, just a small shop where we spend most of our time trimming stems and sweeping up leaves from the floor. The traffic outside on the main road can be a bit much sometimes, especially during the evening rush when everyone is heading home and stops by for a quick bunch of flowers. We usually have buckets of water sitting around everywhere, which makes the floor a bit slippery if you aren't careful. It’s a lot of manual work, honestly. My hands are usually stained from the sap and the string we use to tie the garlands. We see the same neighbors every morning on their way to work. Some people just want a single rose, others need big bags of marigolds for their prayers. We don't really have a fancy system here, just a notebook where we scribble down what we need to order for the next day. It stays busy, and the smell of the jasmine usually covers up the smell of the city traffic for a bit. That’s just how it is here at our spot in Jogeshwari East, just working with what we have.
