We start the day pretty early here at Pal Dairy in Matunga 41495. Usually, the milk trucks come in while it’s still dark out, and the air is actually cool for a change. My father opened this place a long time ago, and not much has changed since then, besides the traffic getting worse every year. We spend most of our time just moving crates around and making sure the fridge stays running. If it stops, we’re in big trouble. People from the neighborhood come by for their morning milk or some dahi for lunch. We don't really have a big team, just a few of us who know where everything is kept. Sometimes the floor gets slippery from the water and ice, so you have to watch your step. We don't do any big advertising or anything like that. People just know we are here on this corner. Matunga is a busy place, but our little spot feels like it’s been here forever. We just keep the milk fresh and try to get through the daily orders without too much fuss. Some days are slow, especially when it rains heavy and the street floods a bit, but mostly it’s just the same routine. We like it that way. No one is trying to be a corporate giant here. We just want to make sure the bags are sealed right and the change is correct for the customers. It’s a lot of work but it’s what we do.
