Our office is right in the middle of Fort, on the first floor of the Wadia Charities Building. It’s an old place, 22-D, and you can feel the history in the walls. S.A. Brelvi Road is always packed with people and cars, so it’s never exactly quiet around here. Pakona Engineers has been in this spot for quite a while now. The stairs up to the office are a bit narrow, and the ceilings are high, like they used to build them. We don’t have much room for extra stuff, so every corner is filled with files or blueprints. It’s a bit of a maze if you aren’t used to it. The staff here mostly takes the train in, so we’re always checking the clock for the commute. We don’t bother with much modern decor. It’s mostly wooden desks and old cabinets that have seen better days but still hold together. Working in Fort means you’re close to everything, but it also means dealing with the humidity and the old building quirks. Sometimes the pipes clatter, or the windows rattle when a big truck passes by. We just get on with it. It’s not a shiny corporate glass tower, and we prefer it that way. It feels more real. We deal with engineering stuff all day, so we like things that are built to last, even if they look a little worn around the edges. There is a tea stall downstairs where everyone goes to get their morning start, and that’s basically where most of the office gossip happens before the workday starts.
