New Jagmag Glass Centre

If you ever walk down S B Marg in Mahim, you might see New Jagmag Glass Centre. We are located in the Jantha Chawl Society, at number 29. It’s a busy workshop where we spend our days cutting and fitting glass for all sorts of uses. We handle everything from simple window panes to mirrors for bathrooms. The floor is usually covered in tiny bits of glass, so we always have to be careful where we step. It’s a manual job that requires a lot of patience and a steady hand. I’ve been doing this for years, and I’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit. We don’t have a big showroom; most of our samples are just leaned up against the walls. People from the chawl and nearby buildings come to us when they break a window or need a new tabletop. It can get pretty hot and dusty in the shop, especially during the afternoon. We use basic tools and a big wooden table for all the cutting. It’s a loud place with the sound of glass breaking and grinders running. We don't do any fancy advertising, just the board outside. Most of our customers are people we've known for a long time. It’s hard work, but there’s a certain satisfaction in seeing a piece of glass fit perfectly into its frame and helping out a neighbor.
