New Engineering Works

New Engineering Works is down in Malad West, specifically in the PVK Compound at B-87. We are on the ground floor, which is lucky because we deal with some heavy metal parts and old machines that are hard to move. The area around Bombay Talki has a lot of history, and you can feel it in the old walls of the compound. Our floor is usually covered in some oil or metal shavings from the lathes and drills we use. It’s a noisy place when the work is in full swing. We don't have a receptionist or a lobby; you just walk in and see the guys working on the benches. Usually, someone is welding in the corner, so there are sparks flying and you have to watch your eyes. We take on a lot of small jobs for local factories that need a part repaired or a new piece of hardware made to a specific size. It’s a lot of measuring and double-checking with calipers. The light isn't the best in the back, so we have these big hanging lamps that stay on all day. We’ve been in this Malad spot for years, and the neighbors know us by the sound of our hammers hitting the metal. It’s not a clean job, and we all go home with grease under our fingernails and on our clothes. If a machine breaks down, the whole day changes while we try to get it running again.
