Natural Ice Cream

Down in Vile Parle East, right in Shree Krishna Nagar, is where we spend most of our days. If you know the neighborhood, you know it’s got a specific feel to it. Our place isn't anything too crazy, just a spot where we make ice cream and try to keep things cool. We use a lot of fruit and milk, and sometimes the shipments come in later than we’d like, which keeps us on our toes. The guys in the back have a routine down for peeling and prepping everything. It gets sticky and messy, especially when the humidity is high, but that’s just part of the job. We see a lot of the same neighbors every week, which is nice because we know what they usually want before they even say anything. The shop isn’t huge, so when it gets crowded, people end up standing on the sidewalk talking. We’ve had some issues with the freezer acting up lately, but we got it fixed. It’s just us doing what we know how to do. No one here is a big corporate executive; we’re just folks from around the area working a job. We like the rhythm of the seasons because it changes what we have in the bins. Mostly, we just stay busy and try to keep the floors swept. It’s a regular life here in Vile Parle, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
