Mumtaz Restaurant

Being located right inside the Balwas International Hotel on Bellasis Road puts us in the middle of everything in Mumbai Central. If you look out the window, you can see the BEST Bus Depot right there, always crowded and moving. We’ve been running Mumtaz Restaurant for quite some time now. It’s a bit of a mix here because we get people staying in the hotel and then locals who just know we are here. The kitchen stays hot, especially in the Mumbai summer, but we keep the fans going. It’s not a quiet place by any means. You can hear the traffic and the buses outside all day long. We start our day by checking what came in from the market and getting the spices sorted. My staff and I have a routine that we’ve followed for years, so we don't really have to talk much to know what needs doing. We aren't trying to be the most modern place in the city. We just have our tables, our chairs, and the food we’ve always made. Sometimes things get a little chaotic when a large group comes in from the station, but we just handle it one plate at a time. It’s a decent living and we like being part of this busy corner of the city. We don't have fancy decorations, just the basics that keep the place running every day.
