If you ever walk down Samuel Street, you know how packed it gets with people and carts moving everywhere. We are located in Oriental House, which is one of those older buildings that has seen a lot of things over the years. Our spot is Room No. 202 on the second floor. You have to walk up the stairs because the lift isn't always something you want to wait for. Once you get inside, it feels a bit calmer than the street outside, though you can still hear the shouting and the horns from below. We deal with saffron and other items, so there is usually a particular scent in the air that stays on your clothes all day. The room is filled with bags and boxes, and there isn't much space to move around once the new stock comes in. We spend the day weighing things, packing them up, and writing out receipts by hand or on the old computer. It’s a family-style environment, even if we aren’t all related. We’ve known the neighbors in the building for a long time now. Sometimes we share a tea or just nod as we pass each other on the landing. The lights are a bit dim in the hallway, but we know our way around perfectly. It’s a practical place for a practical business. No one puts on any acts here; we just do what we do.
