Masalazone

We are over at 21 B in Bandra West. It’s a small shop, mostly filled with jars and bags of different spices. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the smell—it’s a mix of turmeric, chili, and everything else we have on the shelves. It can be a bit overwhelming if you aren't used to it. We spend a lot of our time weighing things out on a small digital scale that sometimes gets temperamental. People come in asking for specific blends, and we do our best to help them find what they need. We don't have a fancy display or bright lights. Most of the spices are kept in plain glass jars with handwritten labels. Some of the labels are starting to peel off, but we know what is in each one. Bandra is a busy place, but our shop feels a bit like stepping back in time. We don't use any big marketing tricks. We just sell what we have and talk to the people who come through the door. Sometimes we have a cat that hangs around outside, and we give it a bit of milk. It’s a quiet kind of business for the most part, except when we’re grinding something in the back. That gets pretty loud. We’ve been here for years and haven't changed much because we don't see the need to. It’s just us and the spices and the jars on the shelf.
