Candyy Leather Craft

If you walk into Babu Shinde Compound at Marol Naka, you’ll eventually find us at Gala No. 5. This part of Andheri East is always crowded and noisy, but it’s home for us. Candyy Leather Craft is a small place, and the first thing you’ll notice is the heavy scent of raw leather. We have rolls of hides stacked up in the corners and scraps of different colors all over the worktables. It isn’t the cleanest looking shop because cutting and stitching leather is messy work. We use old sewing machines that have a very specific rhythm when they’re running. Sometimes the thread snaps or a needle breaks, and we just swap it out and keep going. Chimat Pada is a busy area, so there is always someone popping their head in or a delivery bike zooming past the entrance. We don't have fancy displays or glass windows. Most of the time, we’re just bent over the benches with our tools, focusing on the edges and the stitching. It is a lot of handwork and sitting in the same spot for hours. The lighting could be better, but we’ve got lamps right over the spots where we need to see the fine details. It is just a local craft shop trying to do honest work with our hands every day. We enjoy the process of turning a flat piece of hide into something useful.
