Mahavir General Stores

This shop is inside Ratan Niwas at number 10. We are located on 2nd Fanaswadi, specifically on Dadi Seth Agyari Lane near Marine Lines. It’s a very old part of the city. The buildings are close together, and there’s always a lot of noise from the street. We’ve been running the store here for quite some time now. Inside, it’s a bit narrow because of all the boxes we have to store. We sell all kinds of small things that people in the apartments nearby might need suddenly. The lane is thin, so you can’t really bring a big car through easily. Most people just walk over. It gets quite humid in Mumbai, especially during the monsoon, so we have to be careful about the stock getting damp. We have a few wooden cupboards that have been here since the start. They’re still sturdy though. We spend most of our day sitting by the entrance, waiting for customers or sorting out the change. Marine Lines is always busy with people going to the station. Sometimes we hear the trains if it’s quiet enough at night. We don’t have any big advertisements. People just know we are here in the lane. We keep it simple and just do our work every day without much fuss. We've been at Ratan Niwas so long we know every crack in the floor. It's just home for us.
