Maharashtra Masala Stores

Our little shop, Maharashtra Masala Stores, is located in Khar. We have been here for a very long time, and the shop has a lot of history in the neighborhood. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the heavy scent of all the different spices we keep in stock. We have rows of jars and large sacks filled with chilies, turmeric, and various masala blends. It is a bit of a traditional setup, with wooden counters and old weighing scales that have been used for years. We don't have a fancy display or bright neon signs. People in Khar know where we are and they come to us when they need something fresh for their cooking. We spend a lot of our time measuring out portions and chatting with the locals who have been our customers for decades. Sometimes the shop gets very crowded, especially on the weekends, and people have to squeeze past each other in the narrow aisles. We grind some of our own spices in the back, so you can often hear the sound of the mill running. It’s a dusty and noisy job, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. We don’t have a website or do any social media. We just open the doors every morning and serve whoever walks in. It’s a simple, honest life we’ve built here in this corner of Khar. We are just happy being a regular part of the daily market scene and seeing the same faces.
