Luggage Corner

Luggage Corner is at number 11 in Dharavi. It is a small spot but that is just how things are in this neighborhood. There is constant noise from the street and people are always moving about. We have bags and trunks piled up almost to the ceiling. You have to be careful when you pull one down or the whole stack might move. It is not a shiny showroom like you see in malls. It is a practical place where we keep travel gear for people who need it. Much of our day is spent talking to the neighbors or fixing a handle for someone who brought a bag in. We use every bit of space we have, so things are never in the same place for very long. The floor is just concrete and we have some old wooden racks that have been here for years. It doesn't matter much as long as the bags stay in good shape. People know us by the sign out front, even if it is a bit faded now. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us making sure the shop stays open. It gets very hot in the afternoons, so we keep the door open to catch whatever breeze comes through. It is a lot of work keeping track of everything in this one room, but we manage. There is no corporate office, just this space in Dharavi where we work every day.
