Our place is Gala No 13, right across from the Golf Club in Chembur. It’s a bit of a walk from the main road, tucked away near the 1st Cross in P K Nagar. If you’re coming from Hosa Road, you just look for the row of galas and we are there. It’s a basic engineering setup where we spend most of our hours. The machines are old but they still run fine for what we need to do. It gets quite hot in the afternoon because of the metal roofs, but we have a few fans going. There's always iron filings on the floor no matter how much we sweep. We’ve been in this spot for a while now, seeing the traffic around the golf club get worse every year. Sometimes the neighbors from the other units come over to borrow a wrench or just to chat for a few minutes. We don’t really do anything fancy here, just straightforward engineering tasks. The paperwork usually piles up on the small desk in the corner. Most of the people who come to see us are regular folks from the area or contractors who know where to find us. It’s a simple life running a workshop like this. We open up early and close when the work is finished. Nothing more to it really. Just a bunch of us keeping the machines running and getting through the pile of orders we have. It’s a lot of manual work and our clothes usually end up stained with oil.
