Kantilal Damodar Mithaiwala has been in Bhandup West for a long time. We are at number 7. Our shop is where we make and sell traditional sweets. It’s a family-run kind of thing. The back area is where all the cooking happens. It’s always warm back there because of the big stoves. We use traditional methods that haven't changed much since we started. There is a lot of stirring involved. We make different kinds of sweets depending on the season or if there is a festival coming up. Bhandup is a busy place and we get a lot of foot traffic. People stop in for a quick box of something on their way home. We don't use any fancy packaging unless someone asks for it. Usually, it's just the standard boxes. The counters are made of old wood and glass. We spend our mornings preparing the fresh batches. By afternoon, the shop smells like sugar and milk. It is hard work and the hours are long. We have to be here early to start the milk boiling. We don't have a website or do any online ads. Word of mouth is how most people find us. It’s just an old-fashioned sweet shop and we like keeping it that way. We just keep doing what we know how to do every single day. It is what our family has always done.
