Kalpana Chocolates

Kalpana Chocolates is a bit hidden away. We are on the 2nd Floor of Smruti, which is part of Khanderao House in Borivali East. Specifically, it’s near the karekal and Kamakshipalya area. Being on the second floor means we don't get people just walking in from the street by accident. You have to know we are here. We spend our days melting, molding, and wrapping. It’s a lot of manual work. The rooms are kept a bit cooler because of the chocolate, which is nice when it’s boiling outside in Borivali. We started small, just using whatever equipment we could find. Now we have a few more machines, but it’s still mostly handwork. Sometimes the elevators in these older buildings act up, so we end up carrying boxes up the stairs. It keeps us busy. We don’t really do big advertisements. Most of our work comes from people telling their neighbors about us. We’ve stayed in Khanderao House because it’s where we started and we know the landlords. It feels like home now. The 2nd Floor of Smruti is where all the mess happens, with cocoa powder getting on everything. We clean it up and start again the next day. It’s not a fancy corporate setup, just a chocolate workshop. We’re just local people making something in Borivali East. It takes a lot of time, but we don't mind the long hours in the back.
