Janak Engineering Works

We’ve been here at Shyam Compound on Ib Patel Road for quite a while now. If you walk past Kewal Kiran, you’ll find us right across the way in Goregaon East. It’s a busy spot with lots of noise and metalwork going on most of the day. Janak Engineering Works is basically just a group of us who know how to handle machines and get parts fixed. It gets pretty dusty inside the workshop, especially when the fans are blowing, but that is just how engineering places are. We spend most of our mornings sorting through orders and getting the lathes and cutters ready. People come in with all sorts of broken pieces or drawings of what they need made. Sometimes it’s a quick job and other times we are scratching our heads for hours trying to figure out a specific measurement. The tea stall nearby is where we usually take a break when the heat gets too much in the afternoon. We don't have a big fancy office or anyone sitting around in suits. It is mostly just grease, heavy tools, and making sure the dimensions are right before anything leaves the floor. The compound stays crowded with trucks coming in and out, but we managed to carve out our own little space here. We just focus on the work at hand and try to get things done by the time the sun goes down. It's not glamorous but it keeps the lights on and the neighborhood running.
