Jaliyan General Store

S V Road is always full of life, and our shop is right in the middle of it in Dahisar East. We are at Shop No 4, and it’s a typical general store like many others you’d see in this part of Mumbai. We’ve been here for quite a while, watching the traffic go by and the shops around us change owners every few years. Our day starts early when the first buses start running. We carry a bit of everything because you never know what someone might need on their way home from the station. From snacks to small household items, the shelves are pretty packed from top to bottom. It’s not the most modern-looking place; we still use old-fashioned scales for some things and keep our accounts in a ledger. The space is narrow, so we have to stack things high up toward the ceiling. Sometimes it takes us a minute to find a specific item if it’s tucked away in the back, but we usually get there. The monsoon season is always a bit of a struggle with the dampness coming in from the road, so we spend a lot of time moving things away from the entrance. We don't do any big promotions or have a website. People just know we are here on S V Road if they need something quickly. It’s a simple, honest business. We just try to keep the stock topped up and be ready for the neighbors.
