Jai Santoshi Maa Kirana Stores

Located in Road No 3, Yashwantrao Chavan Nagar, Mankhurd, our shop Jai Santoshi Maa Kirana Stores has been serving the local crowd for a long time. Mumbai life is fast, so people usually just pop in for a quick item and leave. We have everything from spices to cleaning supplies tucked into the corners. The space is a bit tight, especially when two people are trying to walk through at once. I try to keep the onions and potatoes near the front so people can pick them easily. There’s always a bit of noise from the street outside. Sometimes the rain leaks a little near the door during monsoon, so we put out a bucket. I’ve known many of the customers since they were children. Now they come in with their own kids to buy sweets. We sell a lot of loose grains because that’s what people prefer here. I spend my afternoons checking the expiry dates on the milk packets and rearranging the shampoo sachets. It’s not a fancy supermarket, just a local kirana store where you can get things on credit if I know you well enough. The fan on the ceiling makes a clicking sound, but it keeps us cool. I stay open late into the night because people in Mankhurd often come back from work at odd hours. It’s a busy life, but it’s what we do for the people living nearby.
