Our workshop is tucked away behind Dawood & Company over in Marol Naka. It’s not the easiest place to find if you aren’t looking for it, but we’ve been here at number 10 for a long time. The main thing you notice when you walk in is the smell of grease and the bright blue flash of the welding torch. We do a lot of fabrication work, so there are always sparks flying somewhere in the back. The floor is concrete and usually covered in metal shavings or bits of scrap that we haven’t cleared yet. It’s loud because of the grinders and the heavy machinery, but we don't mind the noise. We have a small table where we look at drawings and figure out how to put things together. It’s hands-on work and our clothes usually have a few oil stains by the end of the shift. People from the nearby factories often come by with a broken part that needs fixing or a sketch of something they want us to build from scratch. We don't have a receptionist; you usually just shout for someone over the noise of the machines. It’s a busy environment and things move fast around here. We just focus on getting the measurements right and making sure the welds are solid. It’s not pretty work, but it’s what we know how to do best. We just keep our heads down and get the job finished for whoever walks in.
