J A Engineering Works operates out of Gala Number 4 in the Chimaada area near Marol Naka in Andheri East. It is a busy part of the city, and the noise from the metro and the planes overhead is something you just get used to after a while. Our workshop is not very big, but we have all the basic engineering tools we need to handle the daily tasks that come our way. Most days I am wearing my old blue overalls and spending hours at the workbench. Marol Naka is a hub for small businesses like ours, so there is always a lot of energy in the air. The Gala is a bit dark because the sunlight does not reach the back very well, so we have these bright tubelights that stay on all day. We deal with a lot of local contractors and people who need small metal parts made or repaired. It is not the kind of work that makes you famous, but it is steady and it keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday. Sometimes we have to work late on a Sunday if there is a big job that needs finishing, but that is just part of the deal when you run your own engineering works. I usually have my lunch sitting on a plastic stool near the entrance just to get a bit of fresh air. It is a simple setup we have here, but it has served us well for a long time.
